This autumn/winter ATON consists mainly of materials and colours with reduced gloss, such as a brown-beige coat made of undyed cashmere, a light grey set-up made of nylon material with an uneven texture using a traditional Japanese hand-dyeing technique, and a black knit set-up made of specially twisted Japanese paper and cashmere yarn.

The colours are mainly composed of materials and colours with a low sheen.

The colour imagery was inspired by the colours seen in films about lunar exploration in the past and in the children's illustrated book 'Let's See the Planets' published in the 1970s

Instead of the high-resolution glossy images of today, I was drawn to the messy, dry-feeling shades that for centuries humans could only see into the cosmosphere through telescopes.

The blue-grey of the night sky and the moon's surface was reproduced with tourmaline, while the brown-beige of Jupiter and thirsty soil was reproduced with ATON COLOUR's botanical dye, a dye extracted from an ore called maghemite.

Tourmaline is a mineral whose crystals grow in columnar form and is found in Brazil and Africa. Iron-rich types have a black to blue-grey colour. Other types rich in magnesium and lithium have different colours, making tourmaline a mysterious mineral with almost every colour.

MAGHEMITE | maghemite / magnetic red iron ore
Maghemite is found as a mineral commonly found on earth's surface all over the world. It is also known as a natural magnet and is an important magnetic material for making music and video tapes. It is therefore a special mineral that is widely used in industry.
